National Parks Near Jaco, Costa Rica

There are two national parks that are close to Jaco, Costa Rica. Both Manuel Antonio and Carrara can be accessed easily from Jaco, making them an excellent choice for a national park day trip during your vacation. 

Manuel Antonio
Manuel Antonio is one of the most popular national parks in Costa Rica. With beautiful beaches, incredible landscapes, jungle hiking paths, waterfalls, and an abundance of animals, it’s no wonder why Manuel Antonio is so loved! Carara
Carara, though less popular than Manuel Antonio, is a beautiful national park close to Jaco, Costa Rica. Smaller and less crowded, Carara promises a glimpse of tropical wildlife. Take a guided tour and you’ll be guaranteed to see birds and other species. Or, enjoy a quiet self-guided hike on the easy-to-walk trails. While Manuel Antonio and Carrara are the closest national parks to Jaco, there are plenty of other amazing parks to visit in Costa Rica! If you plan to travel around or stay for longer, we recommend checking out the below national parks.

Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve
Monteverde is one of Costa Rica’s most popular destinations, and for good reason. This misty, windy, cool place is full of verdant green jungle, breathtaking landscapes, and innumerable wildlife species. Birdwatchers must include Monteverde on their list—it is one of the best places to catch a glimpse of the Resplendent Quetzal. If you visit the Monteverde area, be sure to book a day at the cloud forest for hiking, bird watching, and wildlife observation. The town is also full of other activities—zip lining, waterfalls, hanging bridges, hikes, restaurants, and more.

Corcovado National Park
Considered the most biologically intense place on Earth, Corcovado National Park is a true treasure. It is home to one of Central America’s largest lowland tropical forests and hosts innumerable flora and fauna species. Animals frequently spotted here include sloths, jaguars, spider monkeys, crocodiles, red-eyed tree frogs, and more. A hired guide is highly recommended when visiting this park.

Arenal Volcano National Park
Another highly popular destination, Arenal Volcano National Park is famous for its natural hot springs. Once very active, Arenal Volcano has now quieted, yet the area and town surrounding it are full of fun activities: hikes, hot springs, zipline, waterfalls, and more. You’ll also get to enjoy delicious restaurants, luxurious stays, and relaxing spas. 

Tortuguero National Park
Tortuguero is a small Caribbean town full of emerald jungle and an incredible variety of flora and fauna. It is most well-known as a nesting site for various sea turtles. While you’re visiting, make sure to schedule a turtle tour, boat tour, or birding tour. There’s so much to see!
