Wondering how to get around during your trip to Playa Jaco? Most everything in town is within walking or biking distance, but some trips may require a set of wheels. We have you covered with all the information on official taxis, users, shuttles, buses, and more.

If you need to take a taxi somewhere, we recommend the official red taxis. There are many “pirata” or non-official taxi drivers, but they often do not charge fair prices. The official taxis will charge you a fair price using a taxi meter. Make sure you have local colones with you, however, because they may not give you the best change if you pay in dollars. There is Uber in Costa Rica! Depending on where you’re going, an Uber can actually be cheaper than a taxi. To use Uber here, simply open your app and enter your destination and order a ride just like you would normally. Make sure to always check the license plate of the driver matches the one on your app before you get in the car.

If you require a shuttle to the airport, there are various private drivers that you can rely on. While the bus may be the cheapest way to get to the airport, it also takes the longest and does not leave at all hours. When you order a private shuttle you can schedule your ride for any hour of the day, making it possible to get to your 6 AM flight on time.

The buses in Costa Rica are the cheapest form of public transportation. You can ride from Jaco to Playa Hermosa for less than $2 and you can go from Jaco to San Jose for less than $6. If you’re here for an extended period of time and would like to visit various parts of the country, a bus is probably your cheapest option. If you’re here for a short time and want to see as much as possible, a rental car is the best way to go. In Jaco, there are various places to rent a car, including Adobe, Avis, Economy Rent-A-Car, and Corre Caminos. We recommend taking a look at what prices each place is offering before you decide.
