Yes, there are many pharmacies (Farmacia)Ā  in Jaco, and most have a doctor available. Many things are over the counter, but if you need specific prescriptions filled, you should take care of that before you leave, as there are no guarantees that the pharmacy will have what you need. Also, remember that grocery stores do not carry medications such as Tylenol or Advil, so you will need to buy those things in the pharmacies, which usually close around 8 pm in Jaco.

It is very safe, and there are many people who choose this method of getting around town. However, please be aware that street traffic is vehicle heavy, and nobody (and everybody) has the right of way. If you arenā€™t super confident on a bike, I suggest taking a taxi or walking through town. There are no crosswalks in Jaco or traffic lights, so be careful (and fast) when crossing the street. Traffic laws are not heavily enforced in Costa Rica, so make sure you look both ways before crossing the street.

Believe it or not, yes, you can! If you have an overly sensitive tummy, then it is recommended to bring a filter or buy bottled water, but otherwise, the water in Jaco is safe to drink. Your best option for an authentic Costa Rican eating experience would be to eat at one of the many Sodas that line the streets in Jaco. Gallo pinto, rice with shrimp, casadosā€¦you really canā€™t go wrong at a Soda, and they are straightforward to find and very affordable. If you are looking for a sweet treat to cool off with, there are a few ice cream and gelato places in Jaco, or there are many small convenience stores where you can buy yummy single-serve cold treats such as Trits ice cream cups and much more.

A COVID test is no longer required to enter Costa Rica nor is COVID-specific medical insurance. You should check with your local authorities to see if you are required to have a negative test to re-enter your country of residence.

While COVID is an ongoing, ever-changing situation, Jaco is doing its best to contain it as best as possible. Case numbers have dropped and the local healthcare system has not been overwhelmed; for that reason, most regulations have been dropped. Masks are no longer nor are vaccine cards. Hand washing and social distancing is still the best way to reduce the spread.

While it is convenient to use credit cards, the preferred method of payment in Jaco is cash. Credit cards come in handy for tour deposits, groceries, etc. most stores in Jaco prefer to deal in cash, and you will likely get a better price.

Pack light, no matter what time of year, Costa Rica is always quite warm. Jaco is a beach town, so flip-flops and shorts are everyday attire. Bring swimsuits, shorts, flip-flops, and anything else you might wear to the beach. Jaco is laid back, and formal wear is usually unnecessary. If you plan on doing any tours, you will want to bring some closed-toed shoes and long pants. Bug spray will also come in handy but can be purchased anywhere.
